Pat Nicklen is the Chief Product Officer at RoboKind. Nicklen has years of project and service management under his belt. He joined because of the company’s mission to help families reconnect with their children who have autism.  Since joining, he has helped RoboKind develop their customer service platform and achieve product deadlines.

“Helping special needs has always been a passion of mine. This company and the purpose behind this company fulfills me fulfilling that passion. So the more that I can put into this company, the more I can help the people that I care about.”

The challenges of joining a one of a kind company

Everyone at RoboKind has big ideas and lots of projects. It’s easy to get distracted or off track. Someone needs to make sure there is a clear schedule and deadlines, that’s where Pat comes in. He helps the team outline plans, sets deadlines, and assists with finding resources. With his history in service management, he also is helping RoboKind establish a customer service platform and taking in feedback to improve on Robots4Autism and Robots4STEM.

“What I do is I help make sure projects get started, have the proper amount of information to be successful, and have a completion date so we know what we are aiming for, so that we can have defined deliverable that people can count on.”

The WOW Moment

In the last few months, there has been a flurry of news coverage about Robots4Autism and Milo. From overseas in the United Kingdom, to Hong Kong, to RoboKind’s own backyard in Texas, the impact that Milo has had on the autistic community is profound. International stories about children who had been non-verbal, had trouble communicating, and had constant meltdowns are now able to connect with the world around them, but most important of all, reconnect with their families. These stories are the driving force behind RoboKind’s passion for creating and improving on Robots4Autism.

“When you see a child that wasn’t able to talk to their family, and is now not only talking to their family but able to express themselves, it is … you know that you’re doing the right thing.”

Pat’s future plans

As the company grows, so does the amount of work and client base. Pat’s current focus is improving current customer relations, documenting existing procedures, and clarifying processes. He is also assisting with taking in client feedback to help improve Robots4Autism and Robots4STEM.
